Hungarian Parliament Building

The Hungarian Parliament Building along the Danube is arguably the city’s most iconic scene to photograph, especially at blue hour when it’s illuminated and reflected in the river.

Additionally, the Chain Bridge connecting Buda and Pest makes for dramatic compositions, particularly from the riverbanks or from Buda Castle Hill.

Castle District

We will also visit the Castle District, which offers incredible vantage points – Fisherman’s Bastion provides panoramic views over the city with its neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque architecture as foreground interest. Nearby, Matthias Church’s colourful tile roof is photogenic in itself.

Budapest Metro

The Budapest Metro offers a fascinating blend of old and new for photographers. Line 1 features beautifully preserved 19th-century stations with yellow tilework and vintage charm that create nostalgic compositions. In contrast, Line 4 showcases striking contemporary architecture with bold colours and dramatic lighting perfect for modern urban photography.

Capture commuters moving through these spaces, geometric patterns of platforms and tunnels, or the blend of light and shadow to tell Budapest’s layered story beneath the streets.

Trams at Night

Budapest’s iconic yellow trams create stunning light trails and dynamic compositions after dark. The illuminated trams gliding along the Grand Boulevard or beside the Danube offer perfect subjects for long-exposure photography, their warm glow contrasting beautifully with the city’s floodlit architecture.

Capture them rounding corners with motion blur, waiting at atmospheric stops under street lamps, or framing them against landmarks like the Parliament Building. We will practice using slower shutter speeds to transform these vintage vehicles into streaks of golden light weaving through Budapest’s streets at night.
