Marrakesh Workshop – November 2027

22nd - 26th November 2027
4 Places Available
Price: €1295

Morocco is one of my favourite places in the world to shoot and to teach. I’ve been running a 9-day workshop across the country for several years now, and every time as we leave Marrakesh, I find myself wishing we had longer there — so I put together this 5-day workshop dedicated entirely to it and the landscapes on its doorstep.

This is a chance to really dig into Marrakesh at a slower pace: to wander the medina without watching the clock, to sit with a scene until the light does what you want it to, and to come home with a body of work you’re genuinely proud of.

We’re based in a lovely traditional riad right in the heart of Marrakesh for the whole workshop — a comfortable, calm spot to retreat to between shoots, with all the charm you’d hope for from a Marrakesh stay.

Throughout the workshop we’re joined by a local guide I’ve worked with for a number of years. He knows the city inside out, gets us into places we’d never find on our own, and makes sure everything runs smoothly so all you need to think about is your camera.

How the Five Days Unfold

Day 1 — Arrival

Settle in, meet the group at the riad, and get to know each other over a relaxed dinner out together in the city. Afterwards, we head out for an evening shoot to ease into things and get a first feel for Marrakesh after dark.

Day 2 — The Medina, Souks & Artisans

A full day guided walking tour through the beating heart of Marrakesh. This is what this workshop is really about: unhurried time to photograph daily life exactly as it happens. We’ll wander the souks, watch dyers, leatherworkers, weavers and metalsmiths at their craft, duck into hidden courtyards, and soak up the colour and chaos of the medina at a pace that will allow you capture fabulous images.

Day 3 — Day Trip to the Atlas & Beyond

We’ll head out of the city for a full day exploring either the Ourika Valley or the thundering Ouzoud Waterfalls (itinerary dependent on season and conditions):

– Ourika Valley, in the foothills of the High Atlas, is a complete change of scenery — terraced fields, Berber villages clinging to the hillsides, rushing rivers, and some of the warmest, most welcoming local faces you’ll photograph on the whole trip. It’s a masterclass in landscape-meets-portrait work.

– Ouzoud Waterfalls, one of North Africa’s most dramatic cascades, tumbles over 100 metres through ochre cliffs, with rainbows forming in the mist and wild Barbary macaques often visible in the surrounding olive groves. It’s a genuinely spectacular location for both long-exposure landscape work and wildlife opportunities you won’t expect in Morocco.

Day 4 — Day Trip to the Coast: Essaouira

Our second excursion takes us to Essaouira, the windswept fishing port on the Atlantic coast. This UNESCO-listed medina is a photographer’s dream — blue fishing boats stacked in the harbour, gulls wheeling over the daily catch being unloaded, weathered ramparts overlooking crashing surf, and a totally different colour palette and light quality to Marrakesh’s warm interior tones. The contrast between the two cities in a single trip is one of the real gifts of this workshop.

Day 5 — Sunrise & Farewell

One last shoot together, catching Marrakesh in that soft, golden early light before the streets fill up. Then it’s back to the riad for breakfast, check-out, and farewells as the workshop comes to a close.

Come away with a real sense of Marrakesh — not just the postcard shots, but the depth and texture of a city (and a country) I keep coming back to, year after year.
